David's assignment

Hush-

The ending sequence has the most music and sound effects as the rest of the movie was from the woman's perspective whereas we get to see the killer's perspective whilst the woman is fighting back.
The movie up to this point has been leading up to the big finale, with it's lack of sound effects and music the viewers feel enclosed and claustrophobic which makes us sympathise more with the main character's situation and lets us have the experience of exactly how she feels at all times during the film's 1 hour and 10 minutes until the killer finally comes in.
the film's music rises to a crescendo at around 67 minutes as the significantly more injured Maddie stands up from the floor, coming face to face with the killer, only a pane of glass between them.this queues the audience to get ready for a final showdown between the two.
After chasing Maddie out of the bathroom while she bleeds out, slowly losing her balance as she falls to the ground, the music dies down to a somber tone, suggesting that this is the end and her fight is over the killer enters with a non diegetic, sinister track.

Monster House-

Gil Kenan's 2006 3D computer-animated film, Monster house consists of a great variety of sound effects to pull the audience into this animated world and drive its narrative.
From the start you hear the rustling of leaves in the wind, as the camera has you focus on a single leaf it begins to fall and what seems to be a child's voice can be heard in the distance. Although you cannot see her yet you assume she will appear on screen soon and as the "la la la"s get closer and closer she runs over the now fallen leaf with her tricycle as a non-diagetic upbeat soundtrack plays and the camera now closely follows the girl.
A little along the path the girl stops paying attention to where she is going and suddenly gets stuck on someone's lawn, the happy music slows to a stop as the camera focuses back on the leaf as it blows towards the girl an then the house that that the lawn belongs to. The girl looks toward the old looking house as a now, more sinister non-diagetic track plays, changing the entire atmosphere of what was once childhood innocence.
while the camera follows the leaf to the front door of the house the sound of the door handle rattling can be heard before it swings open, a pair of eyes emerge from the darkness within the house and a deep, almost angry sigh is heard. This is the "bad guy".
A little later in the movie, at 39 minutes in, DJ and his friends are seeking help from the cops but unfortunately they get nowhere. DJ then suggests that they go to an "expert" as he says this the camera stays in place whilst he walks toward it, getting closer and closer before we hear the diagetic noise of arcade machines, then it cuts to a diner where we see an adult male playing thou art dead. This technique is referred to as a "J-cut" and is used ,many times in this movie in order to let the story line flow better than it would if the cuts were generic.

Stacey Dooley, selling drugs online-

In this documentary a British presenter uses different social media platforms to explore the world of online drug dealers, going undercover to meet them and try to get some interviews to explore their world.
The use of sound in the documentary enforces the idea of how social media can have bad effects on teens that can use it for selling drugs. 17 minutes in there are some statistics on screen about how many teens use snapchat and the is a non-diagetic, almost sinister tone playing making snapchat seem like it's bad or can be bad without much consequence.
The use of conversation is powerful, not just because it's a documentary but also because it's real people having serious conversations about a big issue and some of the questions asked by stacey dooley are very serious and have almost shocking answers what makes it even more impactful is all the use of non-diagetic sounds, causing the viewers to have more of a reaction. An example of this in play is when Stacey talks to a dealer about how much they make saying "give me an idea, is it lucrative?" is followed with slightly suspenseful music whilst the dealer shows her the money and judging by her reaction she was shocked at the amount.
